THE SERENITY ROOM SELF CHECK IN: Instructions sent 2 days before arrival. Share a lovingly refurbished 1907 home with me on the Oakland/Berkeley border. The peaceful Serenity Room is furnished with a desk & office chair, super comfortable queen bed, glider rocking chair w/footstool & a dresser. It is 13.25' x 13.75' (182 sq. ft.) I am easy going & have spent many years sharing my home with travelers & housemates. I rent 1 other bedroom in the house. Bedrooms are upstairs, with shared bath & a half downstairs. Friends and relatives sometimes visit, some staying for a week or two at a time but the house is large enough that my guests are not disturbed. If both rooms are rented they sleep in the living room. My adult daughter uses the office next to the kitchen & is here as needed, usually a couple of times a week for a few hours. She has a small dog so if you are allergic, this may not be a good place for you. Please be sure that you are comfortable with this. Please have employment, landlord reference or 3 months of mortgage statements, 3 months of bank statements, & personal references available if you would like to complete an application through Front Porch, a non-profit rental agency. Move in requires 1st month's rent plus a security deposit of $1550 for stays of more than one month. Stays of up to one month require 1st month's rent plus a security deposit of $500. The security deposit is refundable within 21 days upon completion of lease agreement & move out, with cleaning fees (usually $65) and any damage deducted. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is a short five minute walk away for easy access to UC Berkeley, San Francisco & both Oakland and SFO airports. AC Transit buses are within one block. The Bay Bridge is a 10 minute drive. If you arrive with a car, there is plenty of street parking, but a guest parking permit is required for short term guests: $5 per day or $27 for two consecutive weeks Monday through Friday. If you are staying long term, we can discuss securing a residential parking permit for you. UC Berkeley campus is about 2 miles away. There are many amenities within walking distance; post office, Berkeley Bowl grocery store, Whole Foods, Sweet Adeline’s Bake Shop, La Pena Cultural Center, Ashby Stage Theater, cafes, the downtown Berkeley arts district, plenty of public transportation, etc. My kitchen is BIG, with two refrigerators, a 6 foot stainless steel prep table, double oven, 6 burner stove and two sinks. A love seat in the kitchen makes conversation easy & fun while you cook. Outside I have a spacious front porch & porch swing to relax on & a big deck in the backyard. Lots of plants, birds, squirrels, cats, & the occasional raccoon will keep you entertained. HOUSE RULES ALARM NOT IN SERVICE AT THIS TIME. >No overnight visitors. >Remove shoes in the entry. >It is expected that you will keep your room & common areas neat and clean. No less than once monthly dusting & vacuuming in your room is required. >Bathrooms: Leave the sink clean and dry. Toilet: Be sure flushing left it clean. >Kitchen Rules: Wash and put away dishes very soon after eating. Use the dedicated dish drying towels to dry them. Wipe down counters, work surfaces, & stove (especially if you fry foods). Sweep up any food droppings on the floor. Be finished cooking, eating, & cleaning by 10 pm. >You are responsible for laundering your bed linens. >Turn lights off when you leave a room; turn off bathroom exhaust fan. >Save water! >Follow city rules re: trash, compostables, recycling. >I will fill you in on other minor rules & help you remember them.
