Welcome to a charming studio with a spectacular view of the Tagus Rriver, in the heart of historic Alfama! It's an open-floor studio with a loft. There is a folding sofa on the main floor (double size) and a double-size mattress in the loft. The studio has a kitchen with a fridge/freezer and a washing/drying machine. Three windows (including one in the loft) overlook the river, while the balcony faces a medieval cobblestone pedestrian street. The views are magnificent - it's essentially a private mirador! Enjoy the comfort of high-speed WiFi and a smart TV with streaming options. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants all over Alfama, including the ones offering live music - Portuguese Fado. Alfama is Lisbon's oldest neighborhood, full of old charm and history. Many streets are pedestrian only, and you have to be prepared to climb many staircases, as it's located on a hill overlooking the city and the Tagus River. Alfama has a vibe of a medieval village within the bustling city of Lisbon: the atmosphere is very peaceful and neighborly, the houses are traditional (mine included). There is easy access to public transportation: a couple of metro stations are a 10-minute walk away; so are Santa Apollonia train station and the boat and ship terminals. To catch a historic tram 28 taking you around the main historic places, you'll have to climb the stairs to the top of the hill (about 5 mins). Or you can descend for 5 minutes and bike along the Tagus River. Lisbon's main historic square Praça do Comércio is a 13-minute walk away. NB: there are steep stairs to climb everywhere: in the city of Lisbon, in the neighborhood of Alfama, inside the house (3 rather steep flights of stairs) and inside the apartment to get to the loft. You are getting a traditional medieval experience: narrow cobblestone streets with no cars (that means no direct car access to the street, problems with parking if you plan to drive, potential problems with delivery services), small quarters, steep stairs, uneven floors - the things that an urban dweller of the yore had to deal with in their everyday life. It's not just an apartment - it's an experience, a time machine. It's interesting and unique. If you love history and unique cultural experiences, this is a house for you. If you are looking for a more conventional option, an easy access by car, an elevator, and flat surfaces all around, then Alfama life might not be the best fit for you. This studio is best suited for one physically fit person or a couple. Not suited for kids. No pets. No smoking. I hope you will enjoy this little home, so unique and full of character, described by various visitors as a ship cabin, a doll's house, a tree house, and a swallow's nest!
