Hello, I'm a lecturer in global environmental politics at University of Edinburgh, and I'll be on sabbatical in the Spring 2026 and doing some traveling in the summer. I have a cozy, furnished and affordable flat at the border of the Abbeyhill and Meadowbank neighborhoods. Living close to Holyrood Park is my favorite part about living here. It's about a 6 minute walk away and has endless beautiful pathways to explore. It is also very close to lochend park, a quiet beautiful park with a large pond (in Scotland they call it a loch) and lots of birds. Portobello beach is also not far away - 12 minutes by bike, 10 by car, and 20ish by bus. Lots of bus connections nearby with links to the rest of the city. It is a quiet neighborhood for the most part. There is one bar down the street which sometimes has karaoke nights (occasionally you might hear out-of-tune singing wafting in on a Friday night!) but other than that it's a peaceful street without much noise or traffic. We're a 3 minute walk away from the Meadowbank shopping park, which has a Sainsbury's and other convenience shops. Gautams is a solid Indian restaurant a block away down the street. We're a little bit further but not too far from other restaurants and coffee shops - about a 10 minute walk away. The bathroom here is a bit small, which is probably the main downside of the flat. The kitchen floor is also not the nicest (I can explain the quirks of the flat in more detail over a zoom call if you'd like). But overall it is a very solid flat in a great location and for an affordable price. It is fully furnished and also has an exercise bike here for those who like that sort of thing. I'll also keep my acoustic guitar which you'd be welcome to use. You would also be welcome to use one of my two bikes while you're here - I have both a normal and an ebike - so long as you don't overuse it and help with maintenance while you're here. I would like to keep a lot of my stuff in the flat during my absence - including my ebike, some clothes and misc things in storage, and my books. But we can negotiate that together. Please don't hesitate to message me here or email at malbert@ed.ac.uk if you have questions!

Comments: It is a compact studio flat that is mainly intended for one person, but also possible to share with a partner. It has a full size bed and large living room, but the kitchen and bathroom are pretty small
I just have a couple of succulent plants that need water once a month.

Comments: Close to Holyrood Park and Lochend Park for beautiful walks - both about a 6-7 minute walk away. Also very close to Sainsbury's and the B&M Home store for miscellaneous home essentials.

Comments: The flat will also likely be available for a couple of weeks in late September/early October if anyone is looking for a stay around then. I still need to confirm my travel dates.
