Beautiful, early 20th c. apartment: sea views, light, large, central, quiet

From our initial contact to the return of my deposit, Barbara was extrememly considerate and responsive. I cannot recommend her highly enough as a Sabbatical Homes host. The best compliment is that I didn't wast to leave! As her family's home for several generations, the flat has history, charm, and heart. It is very spacious and comfortable, and the views of the Adriatic are stunning. Many an evening was spent on the terrace, waiting for that magic instant when the sun would finally disappear below the sea. The neighbourhood has very easy access to everything we needed. Shops are just a few steps away, the the port is around the corner and down a couple of flights of stairs. Bus connections were easy and frequent. I hope to return!

We stayed here for 11 weeks in the spring of 2023. It's an excellent place for an extended stay. There are grocery stores and friendly bars handy to the apartment, and it’s just a brisk walk to the restaurants, shops and gorgeous old cafes of the town centre. Trieste is full of history and we found plenty to see and do right there; it also makes a great base for excursions to Slovenia, Croatia and of course northern Italy.

The apartment is light and beautiful, with spacious bedrooms and living areas, high ceilings and parquetry floors. We had plenty of room for two couples and an occasional extra guest. There's a sufficiently well-equipped kitchen and a splendid balcony - and the comings and goings of the port provide endless entertainment.

Barbara's apartment in Trieste is as beautiful as it looks in the images, and very well located. My wife and I stayed for three months, writing all day most days and enjoying all the wonders Trieste has to offer in the evenings. Weekend trip to the mountains, another one to Venezia, and day trips to Udine, Acquilea, and Cividale were easy and fun. There is a phenomenal fish monger and green grocer around the corner, several buses stop nearby, and one can basically walk everywhere you would want to go. This was a new city for us; Trieste has a fascinating history, and it is close to the surface. Other must do things while you are there: see the cathedral at San Giusto, the Revoltella Museum, the Risiera di San Sabba. A truly great stay.
