Writing sanctuary in Terceira island, Azores

Have you ever imagined writing a paper or a book chapter on Terceira Island, Azores, with outstanding landscapes to inspire you? We invite you to do it and enjoy our home as your writing sanctuary! The "House of the Four Winds" is the nook of our family. We built this house in 2009, and its debut dates back to the cold night of December 27. Our son Guilherme, who was still in the womb, was born in May 2010. In 2016, a new adventure opened up in our lives. We moved overseas to Washington, DC, with Marta as a visiting researcher at Georgetown University and Gonçalo as a Fulbright scholar at the National Cancer Institute. Guilherme started his 1st grade of Elementary School there. Built on a hill, on a large glebe belonging to Marta's family, the "House of the Four Winds" is distinguished by an unrivaled landscape of nature's features: the sea, the land, and the sky. Our home is located in the parish of Altares, in the countryside of the city of Angra do Heroísmo, whose downtown is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Strongly marked by modern architecture, our home still preserves many traditional elements, such as the stone base, the edge of the roofs, the ochre yellow surrounding many Azorean houses' windows, and the stone of arms on the façade belonging to Gonçalo's family. In 2023 we decided to open our home to scholars from around the world looking for a peaceful place to write while they can also enjoy restful days with their families or friends. This house can lodge six people. It has three bedrooms (a large master bedroom, a bedroom with a queen-size bed, and a bedroom with a twin bed with a trundle), two bathrooms, a powder room, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen with a breakfast table, and a laundry room. We hope the days spent here will be unforgettable and productive! A final note: our beautiful cat Sininho, observing the view in one of the pictures, is in the house just when we are there. So, we do not require cat sitting for her.
