Braga city centre apartment

Description

Spacious, light duplex apartment located right in the centre of Braga, a city in the green Minho region of northern Portugal. The apartment looks out over a large green space at the back and towards the historic centre and distant hills. The Universidade Catolica is a 5 minute walk away and the Universidade do Minho a bus ride or 30 minute walk away. The city centre and shops are right on the doorstep. Braga is called the 'Portuguese Rome' as it's the religious capital. But it was also an important Roman city, known as Bracara Augusta. In addition to streets lined with historic buildings and the famous Se cathedral, there is a theatre, several cinemas and lots of interesting small shops. Of course, as it's Portugal, there are plenty of great eating options and places where a four-course meal plus wine can be had for under 10 euros. There is frequent public transport to Porto by bus or train. Porto airport is 40 minutes by airport bus or car. If you hire a car during your stay, the nearest beach is just 30 minutes away. Closer to the city are lovely tree-lined river beaches where you can cool off. The Peneda-Geres national park and the border with Galicia in Spain are both little more than an hour's drive away. Nearby are other pretty towns of the region, plus the start of the Camino de Santiago. The apartment is on the third floor and there is no elevator. No aircon and electric space heaters only. Most of the year it is comfortable as the apartment is well insulated and the sun moves from the front to the back of the building.
