Description

About Us We're a long-time Berkeley family who deeply value the unique character, quiet beauty, and intellectual vibrancy of this city. We live on the property in the main house and have lovingly maintained the studio over the years to create a welcoming, peaceful space for the right person. Our home is tucked into a quiet, safe, residential neighborhood in the Berkeley Hills, where hummingbirds visit daily and the city stretches out below like a postcard. We are thoughtful, respectful people who appreciate good communication, a calm atmosphere, and a sense of mutual trust with those we share space with. We’ve hosted graduate students, visiting scholars, and professionals over the years, and have enjoyed meaningful connections with many of them. Several have become lifelong friends. We value diversity, open-mindedness, and kindness—and we welcome someone who shares those values. We’re generally quiet, lead busy lives, and are around to help if anything comes up, but we also respect your space and privacy. We want you to feel completely at home while you’re here. About the Studio The studio is a private, self-contained space with its own entrance via an exterior stairway. It’s bright, clean, and tastefully furnished, featuring large windows that open to tree-filtered light and occasional bay views, especially on clear days. The space includes a kitchenette with essentials for preparing simple meals, a cozy sleeping and sitting area, and a private bathroom with a shower. Wi-Fi and utilities are included, and shared laundry is available on-site. The stairs leading up to the unit may not be ideal for those with mobility concerns, but they’re part of what gives the studio its elevated charm and sense of retreat. Thanks to the hillside setting, the space feels tucked away from the city while still being just a short walk from the heart of it all. Location We’re located in one of Berkeley’s most beautiful and walkable neighborhoods, just minutes from UC Berkeley. The campus is a 10–15 minute walk down the hill (with a slightly longer walk back up!), making this an ideal spot for students, professors, or visiting scholars who want proximity without the noise of downtown living. The neighborhood is safe, friendly, and filled with trees, gardens, and architecturally interesting homes. We’re close to the Rose Garden, Codornices Park, and numerous walking paths and stairways with sweeping views of the Bay. The Gourmet Ghetto—with its world-class coffee, food co-ops, bookstores, and cafes—is also within walking distance. If you like nature, independent thinking, and a quiet space to study or unwind, this is a perfect home base. Who We’re Looking For We’re ideally looking for one person—preferably a graduate student, visiting academic, or working professional—who will treat the space with care and appreciates living in a quiet, respectful home environment. You’re independent, tidy, and looking for a peaceful place to live and recharge after busy days. This space is not suitable for frequent guests, smoking, parties, or loud music. We’re not strict or fussy, but we do ask for mutual consideration and a shared commitment to keeping the space clean and calm. Pets, unfortunately, are not allowed due to allergies and the presence of other animals on the property. In Summary If you’re seeking a peaceful, private studio in the Berkeley Hills with charm, views, and a short walk to campus, we’d love to hear from you. We’re looking for someone who will enjoy and care for this special space and who values the same sense of calm, community, and quiet that we do. Please reach out and tell us a little about yourself—your background, what brings you to Berkeley, and what you’re looking for in a home. We look forward to meeting you!
