We are a family composed of an academic, a music teacher, a 9-year-old boy and a 4-month-old girl. We have recently renovated our house, and we would be happy to welcome fellow academics while we are away during the holidays. Our house is located in Montreuil, often described as the Brooklyn of Paris. It is next to the metro station Mairie de Montreuil on line 9 (7-minute walk from home) which takes you for example in 15 minutes to Nation (in between Paris “arrondissements” 11, 12 and 20 which are great for going out) or in 30 minutes to Châtelet (this is the most central metro station in Paris; from there you need 10 more minutes to get to the Latin Quarter which hosts a number of universities, including mine – it takes me 40 minutes to go to work from home). We live on a small and quiet street in a vibrant neighborhood with cafes, restaurants, shops, a cinema (Le Méliès) and even a music venue (La Marbrerie). You can shop in small specialized groceries offering quality products (you can find greeneries, handmade bread, cheese, natural wine on a pedestrian street 7 minute walk from home), organic chain stores (like Naturalia and Biocoop on the central square of Marie de Montreuil), or larger supermarkets (like Carrefour at Mairie de Montreuil, and Monoprix at Croix de Chavaux, 8 minute walk from home, which offers not only food but also clothing, toiletries, homeware, etc.). Our house is spacious and full of light. Its most distinct feature is certainly its beautiful green garden which is a perfect place to rest, have a drink, lunch or dinner (there is a barbecue, a table, a parasol, deckchairs – and even cherries to pick on the tree in June ). On the first floor there are a bedroom (that we use as a guest room), a bathroom, and then a large open space with a kitchen, a space with a piano and a wood stove, a dining room and a living room). On the second floor, there are two large bedrooms, a bathroom and a terrasse. In the basement, there is a washing machine that guests can use. The house is perfect for a family with kids. The kitchen is fully equipped (oven, hotplates, Airfryer, kettle, toaster, Nespresso coffee machine). Our son would be happy to share some of his toys, books and comics, while our baby girl can share her crib, her changing table and her bath (if you do not need such baby items, we can remove them before you arrive to make more space for you). Caution however: we have not yet made the house safe for kids who start to walk and explore (we have not sealed off the sockets for example) and the stairs to the second floor are not protected with a guardrail or barriers. Children, and adults as well, need to pay attention when using the stairs. Our house is not a hotel but our home so you should not expect perfection For example, we have not finished furnishing all the rooms after the renovation so our furniture is not always “stylish” and our books are still in boxes while waiting for the bookcase that we have planned to build. Also we will leave most of our stuff in the house but of course we will make sure you have space for yours. We hope that you will feel at home and you will take care of the house accordingly! We would ask you to water the grass in the garden and the plants inside.

Mairie de Montreuil
Paris
Comments: Light-filled spatious house with a green garden in a vibrant neigbourhood (known as the "Parisian Brooklyn"), 7 min walk to the metro station Mairie de Montreuil on line 9 which brings you to Nation (access to arrondissements 11, 12 and 20 ) in 10 min and Châtelet (most central stop in Paris) in 30 min
Comments: Smoking is allowed in the garden, but not inside the house. The property is suitable for kids (we have two); however, it has not been made safe for toddlers (stairs, sockets...). Caution with the stairs for kids and adults as there is no guardrail.
