Welcome to Kumpula, a neighbourhood which feels like green utopia. Our home is just a 20-minute bike ride away from the Helsinki central station, nestled between gardens and a forest inhabited by deer, foxes, owls and woodpeckers (which you can observe from the kitchen window). The house is part of the historic and protected Olympic village, with a large yard and wonderful neighbours. These houses are famous for their excellent efficient floor plans: ours fits a beautiful living room, two bedrooms with a home office setup in both, a separate kitchen with a dining table and a bathroom with a full-sized bath and washing machine, all in 60 square metres. We also have a spacious balcony overlooking a meadow. Many of the home's original features, like built-in closets and lovely early 1950s kitchen cupboards, are still in place. One of the bedrooms has a high quality double-bed, beautiful built-in closets, a desk that converts into a standing desk and an entrace to the balcony. The other bedroom has a home office setup with a screen and a height-adjustable desk, a bunk bed for kids, a climbing ladder and gymnastic rings. The furnishings can be adjusted to suit your needs: for example if you need a cot, hign chairs, potty etc. we've got you covered. Alternatively let us know if for instance you have no use for a bunk bed but instead need a second bed that sleeps a grown-up comfortably. The house has a large green yard with play areas, berry bushes, plum and apples trees and outdoor picnic tables. The house also has a shared sauna, laundry room, a craft room and a recycling room for household items and clothes. Kumpula is very close to hip Vallila and Kallio, as well as Pasila and Arabia and extremely well connected by public transit (buses, trams, trains). The Helsinki university Kumpula campus is a 15-minute walk away and the Kumpula outdoor swimming pool is 300m away. The closest grocery stores are located 400-500m away and the Tripla and Arabia shopping centres are both 1,5 km away. The area is a dream for kids, with green spaces, sledding hills, lovely daycares, schools, a library, sports fields and a village-like communal atmosphere. There are two beaches a 15-min bike ride away. We are surrounded by gardens: the school gardens behind the house are wonderful for fresh produce in the summer and fall, the gorgeous university botanical gardens are a short walk away and in addition we have two whimsical colony gardens nearby. We feel incredibly lucky to live here and hope you will love it just as much.
