Quaint Writing Sanctuary

If you are a writer, an artist, some kind of creative creature, or simply someone who needs a special place in Sicily, this is your place. Available for one person or two people. Avola is a 15 minutes drive from Noto (Unesco Site), 20 minutes drive to Siracusa (too many marvels to write here), 50 minutes drive to Catania (Big Airport, Vulcano Etna, major concert hub, famous night life....etc....etc..). The apartment is one block away from the stop of buses to Noto, Siracusa, Catania....etc....etc... Located in a quiet area in the north ovest section of the historic center of Avola. This independent apartment is sort of a brown stone with on one side neighbors and on the other a small, hardly ever used, one car garage. On the first floor you have: As you enter, a small living and dining area (sofa is also a very comfortable single or queen size bed). A small bedroom with ample closet space, a queen size sleeper on a loft, a two seat couch, a small desk. The kitchen, with two burners electric stove, refrigerator with separated freezer at the bottom, washer/dryer unit. The bathroom with sink and toilet on one side and a large shower with separate access. Up one floor: Large room with balcony, sofas, modern glass table with antique chairs, digital piano. Up one more floor, in lofted are: Master bedroom with queen size mattress, two doors wardrobe, ceiling fan. The second bathroom is ensuite (sink, toilet, shower). Two ceiling windows I do not call this an Architectural Gem, we are in Sicily where there are actual palaces everywhere, I am keeping it real...........still..... The walls are made of local stone covered with Calce Antica (antique, cured, lime) The ceilings are high and in a vault shape The first floor is contemporary locally made white cement tiles. The back splashes in the kitchen and bathrooms are contemporary hand made/hand painted tiles. The stairs and first floor are antique terrazzo and hand made tiles. The roof is made of historic tiles, it recently underwent a large renovation and the whole surface is now elevated four inches to circulate air. The place has excellent air conditioning and heat. Water is included, electricity is included up to 20 euros a month. WiFi/High Speed internet is available and can be purchased on plans of your preference. Everything is walking distance. Stores, restaurants, cafes, entertainment. The beach is a 15 minutes walk. Mini, characteristic, pick up trucks stop right by your front door with all sorts of amazing produce, fresh fish, even granita and brioche (typical local breakfast). I am a musician/pianist this place is my sanctuary. In my days there I wake up around 7:00 am and walk straight to the beach which at that time is quiet and the water is very calm (I feel like I am in the movie "Cast Away"!!). After an hour or so of swimming (or walking depending on the season) on my way back I stop at my favorite cafe for an almond granita (Where I pour a shot of espresso. The bitter hot coffee in the sweet icy granita is MAGIC). I pick up bread and other delicious treats at my favorite bakery (Vecchio Forno Marchisello). Once home I spend the whole day playing piano, reading, writing, eating, and napping. At night I go to an occasional concert or movie. I LOVE my life in Avola. The neighbors are very friendly and respectful, always there if I need something or wish for a little company, yet so aware that I am very private and need time alone. The relationship with them is excellent. It is essential for me to keep it that way. I am looking only for renters who truly understand this priority. If by any chance you do not wish to deal with stairs the street level of the property offers total independence. This apartment is not big, yet it is very comfortable and offers, not only most of what you need, but also something harder to find....a sort of peaceful magic. Come in and Enjoy!!
