I am the author of several novels and a memoir, and also publish essays and short stories. I still write full-time and recently finished a PhD in Creative Writing. My husband is British. He worked for the British Foreign Office for his entire career, and retired two years ago. We have a 15-year-old daughter named Theadora, who is academically driven, with a passion for theatre and writing. She has lived in many countries and just started her 9th school. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, high-grade serous, stage 3C in March 2022. I was originally treated in London for 18 months. But I was there alone, as we were posted to Tashkent, Uzbekistan at the time and my husband had to stay there for work and my daughter, then 12, was in school. When Tim's posting ended, we all moved to France in 2023, where I have been receiving treatment since then. We have a home in a small village near the Cevennes mountains, so I was receiving treatment in Montpellier. But my oncologist there ran out of treatment options for me. I saw an oncologist here at Gustave Roussy, who is a lead researcher on ovarian cancer, and she recommended me for a trial. There was only one for which I qualified. So I am now enrolled in a trial at Gustave Roussy just outside of Paris (in Villejuif). Because I receive treatment weekly, and am often in the hospital for several days at a time, I have been unable to commute back home, as I had hoped. I have thus been in Paris since June, staying in the borrowed apartments of friends. I was alone for the summer, as my daughter was in the US and my husband was looking after our cat in our village and also had to go to the US to fetch our daughter. So far, the trial has been effective at keeping my cancer from progressing. I am often functioning normally. My hope is that if/when this trial stops working I can find another, until a cure is found. But it's also possible I could die sooner rather than later. Thus, it has become clear to me that I need my daughter and husband with me. We just finally succeeded at transferring my daughter to a lycee in Paris (which took months of bureaucracy), where she is scrambling to catch up. My husband is still largely in the south, as there is no room for him here in the studio flat we are currently borrowing from a friend. And because our home there is infested with black mold and he is working with insurers to clear that up. And to unpack the years-worth of boxes from our travels. Our friend who owns this flat in St Maur de Fossés just let us know two days ago that she needs us to leave in two weeks. She wants to give the flat to a relative. This was unexpected, as she had told us we could stay indefinitely. So we have been in a panic, not least because our daughter is already going through a rough transition and because our finances are worrying us. Tim has a pension, most of which goes to bills at home, and my writing income is erratic. And for complicated reasons, we have no savings. I have three novels out on submission right now, and am hoping I can sell at least one of them to help support my family. And am working with a few private clients (I'm also a freelance editor/writing coach). Our plan is to stay in Paris at least until Theadora finishes lycee in two years. She is in Premier right now. I don't want to have her switch schools in her last two years. And of course I don't think I will leave Paris while I am still receiving treatment, which I will be until I die. Her lycee is near the Olympiades metro station on the 14, so we would love to live near there or somewhere in the 13th or 5th. Or Villejuif, which is near the hospital and also on the 14. But Villejuif is a very depressing place, and I spend so much time there already I would prefer not to be so close by! So that is our situation.

Comments: My daughter goes to lycee in the 13th, near the Olympiades metro stop, so commuting distance from there would be ideal. I am in cancer treatment at Gustave Roussy in Villejuif, so that is also good.
Comments: We have a beloved cat in our home in the south of France, so ideally we'd love to have her with us. If not, we will have to find a way to manage housing for her.
We'll help with any pets, except for dogs that bark a lot.
Anything you need
We can water! And whatever else you need.
Comments: I'm undergoing chemotherapy and a clinical trial drug, so sometimes stairs are hard. But I can manage!
Furnished
High Speed Internet
Wi-Fi
Comments: We cannot afford to be picky! But a garden would be nice, as would AC. But again, we can't afford to be picky right now. We just need a roof over our heads and a bit of privacy.

I'm an established novelist, memoirist, creative writing teacher, and PhD student in creative writing (I teach at various universities but remotely at the moment, so I used my PhD student academic email). My husband works for the UK Foreign Office, so we are usually posted abroad. We met in Yemen, where I was the editor of a Yemeni newspaper and where we lived for four years. We then lived in Jordan, London, Bolivia, and now Uzbekistan. Our only permanent home is in France, in a scenic Medieval rural village. I recently had to be medically evacuated from Tashkent, and have subsequently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I had to include that to explain why I am suddenly in London and without a home. I need to be in London until at least the end of September 2022, possibly longer. Estate agents have been unable to help us, as they want longterm commitments and laugh at the mere 1500 UK pounds per month we can afford. My husband and 12-year-old daughter have to remain in Tashkent for work and school, so I'm on my own in London. However, because my chemotherapy makes me prone to fainting, I need one friend or family member staying with me at all times. So I am seeking somewhere with two bedrooms, a laundry machine, and a kitchenette. Other than that, my needs are modest. I am still trying to work as best I can. At the moment I seem to be functional two out of every three weeks (due to the chemo cycles). I'd be so grateful for help. I need to a home before surgery mid-June.

Comments: We need to move as soon as possible as we must leave our current flat before October 30. We are flexible on leaving dates, but longer is preferred. Two years ideal. But we would settle for a year!
