In Dec 2025, I retired from my position as Staff Accompanist and Performing Arts Coordinator at Univ of Alabama in Huntsville. I had similar posts in Omaha and Chicago. In 1999 we moved to NYC, where I took a job at Trinity Wall Street as Liturgical Associate/Verger and Site Manager for Trinity's St. Paul's Chapel at Ground Zero. My wife is a theatre director and poet and can work from anywhere. Following my retirement from Academe, we sold our house and everything in it, found a foster home for my Steinway, and gave back our car. On Jan 1, 2026, we left the US to begin our life of slow-travel, pursuing work and personal projects and locations that interest us. We have started in Medellin, Colombia for 3 months. Why Medellin? Because I did a mini-sabbatical there in Oct 2024, had a marvelous experience, and they issued an open invitation to return anytime. Currently, I am awaiting word on a Fulbright Scholar Award for a music project at Univ de Antioquia, which would begin in Oct 2026. Because of my tourist visa status, I must leave Colombia April through September, so I can return in Oct. We will take this opportunity of time and proximity to finally visit Buenos Aires for at least 2 months, maybe longer if possible. We have been together since 1987, married in 1990, are militant non-smokers, have a heart for all animals and plants, and love to make "home" wherever we happen to be. In this new. life we have started, we are living exclusively on our (generous) combined Social Security benefits, so we need to stay close to our budget of $1200-ish/month for rent. Here in Medellin, we have a 3 month airbnb arrangement that is working very well. For a stay in Buenos Aires, we are open to a similar renting situation or a home/pet sitting situation.
6 Months | My dates are flexible
Comments: My wife does not speak Spanish, so I would prefer a neighborhood where some English is spoken, i.e. Recoleta, San Telmo, Palermo Hollywood, etc. We are coming from a very noisy 2nd floor flat in Medellin. We hope for low traffic/bar noise.
Comments: Hope to find something 4th floor or higher with balcony/terrace. Must be a non-smoking space.
We have always had several cats. All lived over 18 years. I love and sit for dogs, as well, and worked for a time at a high-end doggie daycare in Chicago Loop
Willing and able to collect mail in building and from post offices. Could deliver packages in person anywhere in city.
My wife has an amazing green thumb. All houseplants and gardens thrive in her care. She can even bring back to life any plant that most people assume is already dead.

Comments: I am a collaborative pianist and plan to make connections for recital work at local universities and music schools. A nice piano in the apt would be amazing, but not required. It would be well-played and cared for.
