Hi there! I'm Marina, a 25-year-old biologist from Switzerland with a deep love for the ocean and everything that lives in it. I hold a Master of Science in Biology with a specialisation in aquatic ecology. This August I'll be making a long-held dream come true by relocating to Australia on a 1-year Working Holiday visa (WHV). My hope is to broaden my research from freshwater systems into marine biology, and to connect with Sydney's wonderful marine research community (SIMS, UNSW, Macquarie) while hopefully finding a research role along the way. Joining me on this adventure is my long-term partner Yanis, who holds a degree in Cyber Security from ETH Zurich. Together we're dreaming of a cosy, furnished home where we can truly settle in for 2–12 months (flexible). We're especially drawn to the Eastern Beaches (Coogee, Maroubra, Randwick) and the Northern Beaches (Manly, Freshwater, Dee Why), but we'd happily fall in love with a lovely home elsewhere too!

Comments: close to a beach would be a big +
We both love animals and would happily take on pet care during our stay, whether that's feeding, walks, or company.
Happy to collect and keep your mail organised during your absence.
I have a green thumb and keep my own Schrebergarten (allotment garden) in Switzerland, so I'd happily take care of watering and garden upkeep.

I'm Marina, a 25-year-old biologist from Switzerland. I hold a Master of Science in Ecology from the University of Zurich, with a specialisation in aquatic ecology. I completed my thesis at Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, which took me all the way to Greenland for my fieldwork. It was an unforgettable chapter that deepened my fascination with aquatic ecosystems and the life within them. Travel has always been woven into my story. My parents are both teachers, and the long school holidays of my childhood were spent exploring the world together. Australia was one of the few places we never reached, and so coming here feels like the completion of a long-held family tradition, and the beginning of a new chapter of my own: finding my footing as a researcher in marine biology.
